In spring and summer 2023 we enjoyed a project off our usual beaten track in Liskeard, Cornwall working for Liskeard Town Council.
The council’s Town Plan had identified the Rounday site on the northern edge of the town for development of a playing pitch, pavilion and informal recreation site. Developer contributions via local Section 106 agreements are available to fund the proposals.
Our task was to compile a local needs analysis by consultation with local clubs, sports associations, Cornwall council and the governing bodies of sport. We also worked close with the Cornwall Archaeology Unit to ensure that our proposals did not compromise the heritage of the location which was once a roundhouse settlement – hence the name.
We submitted our report in summer 2023 and the Town Council is now looking to acquire the land.
One interesting feature of the project is that we stayed in the village of Herodsfoot which is a “Thankful Village.” This is a term given to the few villages across the country which did not suffer any fatalities during World War One – the village is thankful that all men and women returned safely.
