Less Frustrated Cricketers
I wrote last week about the huge frustration amongst club cricketers anxious to get back to playing before the end of the summer.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had given informal advice that clubs should prepare to restart playing on or around the weekend of 11th and 12th July. Then the Prime Minister made his “cricket balls are vectors of disease” speech in the House of Commons and the whole picture changed.
Thankfully, he did a u-turn last Friday and announced that club cricket could recommence on the weekend of July 11th/12th.
At the time of writing clubs are awaiting ECB guidance on what format this restart can take – there is huge momentum for an immediate return to 11 a side but the original pathway was for modified games; perhaps as small as 8 v 8. I hope the ECB will bow to the inevitable and just let clubs get on with it.
