We are currently in the middle stages of two parallel pieces of work for the borough of Epsom and Ewell in north west Surrey.
The first is a playing pitch strategy, the second a built sports facilities assessment and strategy. Both are being carried out using Sport England guidance and in close cooperation with the governing bodies of sport, Active Surrey, Surrey Playing Fields Association and Sport England.
The borough is the home of The Derby the most famous horse race in the world which takes place on Epsom Downs every June. It also boasts an extensive network of sports clubs and not one but two David Lloyd centres.
The major issue facing the council is a requirement to build some 579 homes per year between now and 2032. This will generate a 20.1% increase in population from the current 79,928 to 96,000 bringing with it an obvious increase in demand for sports and recreation facilities in a very small geographic area. Our reports will feed directly into the new Local Plan which will go to public consultation later this year.
